Back in December last year, Google launched the real time search feature that now appears on its search results page. Needless to say Yahoo and Bing follow suit.

“Google Real Time search is Google’s relevance technology meeting the real-time web,” said Google Fellow Amit Singhal. “There is so much information being generated that relevance is the key to any product, and that’s where Google comes in.”

It used to be that when you entered a keyword phrase in any of the search engines, the results that would appear showed only what they had collected and stored in their own databases. Real Time Search, as the name implies, shows their database contents and anything else you might have posted on the Web. The information that appears could be only a day or two old, or several years old. For search engines it means doing ultra fast indexing of the information in the most relevant sites where content is posted. Some of the sites being indexed in Real Time are Twitter, Facebook, YouTube Videos, FriendFeed, News, Blog Postings and pretty much any media site that gets regular postings.

Twitter is a great example of the type of fresh content now being indexed by Google, Yahoo and Bing. As such, Real Time Search and Social Networking are revolutionizing anything we ever did before to market anything on the Internet. The instance of an open online conversation and the ability to listen right now and hear what is being said has created an entire new dimension to search marketing.
